Surface Play: Drawing & Painting on Clay

SLOW CLAY Workshop with Jojo Hare MEMBERS ONLY

Te Roto Road

Class Description

A hands-on deep dive where you’ll be guided step by step through the process of layering underglazes and fine lines without using troublesome slip trailers.. This workshop will help you loosen up, gain confidence in your drawing. This will add individuality to your work and showcase your own flair. Jojo will provide some sample pictures for you to use, and give you help with choosing colours. Attending the workshop will give you the skills, helped by Jojo, so you will be able to use this process confidently in the future. What to bring: 2–3 leather-hard pieces (tiles or cylinders work best — think hard-cheese consistency). Thrown or handbuilt. Flat surfaces are easier, but curved forms - with some adjustments, can be decorated too. Tools for mark-making, plus a pencil and brushes. Eg. a pencil, a pen without ink. A thin v-shaped, u-shaped trimming tool. Jojo will advise during the class, and has lots of extra tools for you to use if need be. Optional: any images you’d like to work with. Jojo advises using line drawings to start with. Any subject - it doesn’t have to be flowers, but do use simple line drawings. Jojo will provide rice paper and inspirational images. Don’t forget to bring your enthusiasm!
