Class Description
In this 8-week clay class for adults, we’ll focus on adding the finishing touches that bring figurative sculptures to life. Learn how to sculpt hair, design clothing, and create detailed elements like buttons, bows, and textured fabrics. Together, we’ll explore the storytelling potential of your sculpture by considering what your character might wear and the narrative what they are wearing conveys. We’ll research fashion details for inspiration, cut out slabs of clay to craft garments, attach them carefully, and experiment with textures to give your work depth and personality. Whether you’re refining an existing piece or starting something new, this relaxed and supportive class is the perfect space to develop your ideas and skills. By the end of the course, you’ll have a solid understanding of how to add depth and narrative to your figurative sculptures through thoughtful details and textural techniques. You’ll gain skills in designing and sculpting clothing, crafting lifelike hair, and using clay slabs to create tailored elements like folds, seams, and embellishments. Beyond technical expertise, you’ll leave with a stronger ability to tell stories through your work, infusing personality and character into every piece you create. Previous experience with pottery/sculpture recommended although not required.
