Sculpture (A19) 2026

Figures and Animals - Tue 6.30pm - 9.00pm - with Sarah Brock

Te Roto Road

Class Description

In this 8-week class, you’ll create a series of small, expressive human and animal sculptures—about 10cm high—using pinch pots and basic modelling techniques. We’ll focus on capturing the essence of whichever type of creature you want to sculpt, focussing on personality and character rather than worrying about intricate details. This class is designed for anyone interested in exploring sculpture in a creative way. No previous experience is needed - just a desire to make interesting sculptures, and a willingness to try out different approaches until you find a method that works for you. Your tutor, Sarah Brock, will give you lots of support, working with you to bring your sculpture project to life. Using simple hand-building techniques, you’ll learn how to convey the movement and essence of each animal. Sarah likes each person to find their own way of expressing themselves, supporting you to find out what style of sculpture and decoration fits your artistic expression best. Returning students can work on their own from the start of the term if they wish. Email Sarah with your ideas, and we’ll discuss how to approach it during the first week of class. By the end of the course, you’ll have a collection of small animal sculptures, and possibly a larger sculpture too. Bring along your ideas, develop your own creative style, and enjoy the process of sculpting with a friendly, supportive group of people...
