Class Description
Welcome to Raku. Raku pottery is a low temperature (960’C) kiln firing that heats up faster than normal kiln firings. The pots are removed from the kiln and placed in prepared containers of combustible materials. Your choice of glazes will determine the unique colours and surface decoration. Raku is not food-safe nor water proof. Low firing raku glazes are not the same as ordinary glazes. Your pots must be made from white raku clay, which contains grog, and is able to withstand the thermal shock from hot kiln to combustible bins. Non raku clays will explode- you have been warned. I shall guide you on your raku journey with a short introductory workshop with info hand-outs and glaze samples to safely prepare you before the raku day. Raku firing is fast, hot, exciting and very smoky…. You’ll love it! (Another Club Raku can be organised in October depending on interest.) What to Bring; 4 x bisque glazed pots ready for firing. No taller than 30cm. No flat items. Raku glazes are provided. Shared lunch please.

Full Refund: Granted if OPC cancels a workshop. Withdrawals: 80% refund for cancellations made more than 7 days before the workshop date. (20% is retained to cover administrative costs.), no refund for cancellations made within 7 days of the workshop.
